Welcome to our race at Killarney International Motorway.  A favourite of many of you, and a chance for the youngsters to have an opportunity to race.

There will be strict COVID protocols in place for this event.

COVID Regulations

We are  still required to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations that have been published by the Department of Sport and Culture.  To this end we require that all cyclists maintain social distancing while not racing.  The use of masks prior to the start of the race is compulsory.  You will be required to have your temperature taken at the entrance to Killarney.  All participants and supporters are to use Gate 5 – the one closest to Cape Town, to enter the grounds.  Registration will be split into 3 areas.  U17 and older will be split into 2 different registration areas.  The younger children’s registration will be held at the Go-Kart track where they will be racing.

It is imperative that we adhere to the social distancing protocols.  We are looking at ways to work within the bounds laid down by CSA and the Department of Sport and Culture to ensure that we can hold a successful event.

Routes and distances

For safety reasons the size of each category will be limited. Once these limits are reached it will no longer be possible to enter those categories. This will be on a first-come-first-serve bases.

Cat 1 entries will be restricted to participants with BOTH a CSA Membership and CSA Full Domestic Racing License valid on Sunday 2 May. No day licenses will be allowed for Cat 1.

Starting times

Start times may change closer to the time. Large groups with more than 50 participants will be split into two separate start groups, starting a few seconds apart, similar to Killarney racing in the week.

Costs

Online entries, using the Enter Now button found on this page, is the most cost effective way to enter our races. Entries close the Thursday prior to the race.  Due to the restrictions placed on us due to the COVID pandemic, we cannot take entries on the day

Parking

All people attending the race are to enter Killarney through the southern most gate – Gate 5.  You will have your temperature checked at this point.  From there you are to proceed to the parking area behind the new pits.  From here, you will have to come through the race COVID screening station at the entrance to the pits.  Participants and spectators alike will have to fill in the COVID questionnaire and have their temperature taken for a second time.  Unfortunately, both Killarney and WPCA have to keep records of those entering the premises so please do not feel that you can circumvent the checks at the pit area.

We’re back in the beautiful Slanghoek Valley for our next race.  Please note our new registration and parking venue at Eike Saal.

The route is a mixture of rolling hills on the one side and a flat sometimes windy section called ‘Waaihoek’ on the other side. The race will cross the Breede River by using the low cement bridge. Please keep on checking social media should this area experience heavy rains.

• Category 2 –  80 kms (2 x 40 kms) (Select Cat 2 during registration)

• Women – 80kms (2 x 40 kms)
• Youth – u17,u19 – 80 kms (2 x 40kms)
• Cat 4 80kms (2 x 40kms)

Registration and Parking

Registration and Parking will be at Eike Saal on the Slanghoek Road, just before the start area – Please look out for the parking signs.

Race Numbers and Tags

All participants will be issued with race specific numbers and frame boards which include timing tags. All frame boards / tags are to be returned at the end of the race.

Entry

Entry will close 9h00 on Friday 21 May. No later entries will be possible after this time.

Cat2: You have to select Cat2 – Long (for 120km) or Cat 2 (for 80km).

We will be revisiting Killarney on Youth Day, with a twist!!!

Racing will be in the opposite direction to what we usually race.  We will be catering for Categories 1, 2 and 3, as well as women and all of the youth categories.  U19’s will have their own race and not race with Category 1.

As it’s Youth Day, we would love to see all of our youngsters joining in the fun!  This will be one of the events for Youth selection for Oudtshoorn and the SA Youth Festival.

The Lions Club of Worcester, in association with Western Province Cycling Association, are please to announce the return of the Afrimat Tour de Worcester.  The event will take place on 12 September, COVID permitting.  More details will be made available closer to the time once we know whether the event will go ahead.  This race is a seeding race for the 947 Ride Joburg event.

Start Times

The 125km race will start at 7h30 in batches from Cat 1 to Open

The 70km race will start at approximately 8h30 in batches as required

Start Groups

This race will include WP Cycling League Categories and Open category for family participation. Please refer to the table below for the distances and approximate average speed for each category.

League categories refer to the normal WP Cycling League racing categories, which has a higher average speed that what we will expect in the Open categories. Select a category based on your expected average speed over the given distance. Cut-off times will apply on the route based on the lowest speed indicated above.

Off we go to one of our favourite venues – Perdeberg Cellars – for our next race.  But don’t let the title fool you – there’s nothing LITE about this race.  5 loops of a challenging 25km circuit mean 125km in the legs and 1300m of climbing.  Just what’s needed a couple of weeks before the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

Don’t forget to support Eat@Perdeberg – Rob and his team make the most amazing breakfast buns plus a pizza after the race will be great for recovery

The following categories will be used based on ability and/or age;  Should there be 10 or more ladies, a separate race will be held for them.  The decision on this will be made on the Friday before the race.

• Category 2 –  100 kms (4 x 25 kms)
• Category 3 – 75 kms (3 x 25km)
• Women – 75 kms (3 x 25km)
• Open Category – 75kms (3 x 25km)
• U/19’s to race with Cat 1 – 125km (5 x 25kms)
• U/17’s and U/19 Development – 75kms (3 x 25km)

These starting times are provisional and may change should group sizes warrant it.  Please ensure that you are at the roll call at least 15 minutes before the start of your race.

Coronavirus notification:
Due to the coronavirus outbreak having been confirmed in South Africa all sporting events have been given strict guidelines to how they must be conducted.  Please note that we will have COVID screening protocols in place and riders are not allowed to enter the start area without having gone through the COVID checkpoint and been issued with a wrist band.
