This Event is bought to you by:

Registration

Do yourself a favour and read ALL of the info below before entering thanks – it’s like practising a stage before race day!

The registration process will only be done once (it will be updatable) and will ensure your emergency details are entered and your sponsors get a shout out on your results sheet :).
It will then lead you onto entering for either the LITE enduro or the FULL enduro with preferred start batch.

CSA Licenses

Please note that we are a CSA sanctioned event & series so you MUST have a CSA membership (or CSA day license) to race so that we are covered by their insurance liability.

If you plan on racing in elite UCI events you must have a domestic/international racing license (which needs a CSA membership too :/ )

The registration process checks on your CSA status and will let you know what you need.

Course and distances

The full route will only be launched the day before the race!
Feel free to go and practice the normal Contermankloof trails beforehand but please note that race day routes will differ to the normal trails!
FULL Enduro is 5 stages, 23.5km and 1025m elevation (Stages 1,2,3,4,5)
LITE Enduro is 17km  and 680m elevations (Stages 1,2,3)
Routes will be marked on race day and you will be able to view the route on Trailforks on race day.

Categories

We will have a  LITE Enduro category (all ages) and the following categories in male and female for the FULL Enduro. Anyone younger than 12 will have to enter the LITE enduro and be accompanied by an adult.

  • Junior (12-19),
  • Senior (20-29)
  • Sub Vet (30-39)
  • Veteran (40-49)
  • Masters (50+)

Start Batches

We’ll have seeded start batches to ensure an efficiently run day and it means you can arrive 1 hour before your start batch, saving you time

If you would like to start in a different group from the one you selected when you entered, it is no problem – you don’t have to tell us – just pitch up, register, and shred in the other group!

Registration Open:  7h00

Batch 1: LITE/beginner riders
Race Briefing: 7h55
Start: 8h00
Batch 2: Intermediate riders
Race Briefing: 8h50

Batch 3: Advanced riders
Race Briefing: 9h40
Batch 3 – 9h45
Batch 4: Top 30 riders

Batch 3 – 10h30

This should ensure that everyone is only out on course for about 2-3 hours and less queuing at starts of the Special Stages. It also means that early starters can go up to one of the last stages after they have handed in their timing watches and heckle the pro’s!

When you enter the event you will be able to choose your start batch. We’ll let you know your start times before the event.

Parking & Food vendors

Parking will be available at Contermanskloof and there will be food and drink to buy at the amazing Dairy Shed.

Clarifications / Amendments

In this section we list various clarifications and/or any changes made to the program or race handbook since the initial versions was published on 8 December 2018;

a.  Page 6 – Youth Restrictions:  For the U/17 categories, male and female, the following maximum roll out distances shall apply: 6.89 meters (88″)

Keirin Qualifiers

The Elite Men (12 riders) and Junior Men (8 riders) will have to take part in a qualifier round as per UCI regulation 3.2.135. The order of the qualifying times will determine the distribution into Heat 1 and Heat 2. A change to the program will be made to include a Final for positions 7-12.

Medals

All Youth, Junior and Elite categories will receive medals per category. Masters, with a few exceptions, will get medals in 5 year age increments for individually timed races and 10 year increments for bunch races, irrespective if they are combined to form a larger start group / consolidated program line item.

Exceptions include however Masters Men Points race, Masters Men Scratch race, Masters Woman 1500m, Points, Scratch and Team Sprint. We simply do not have the numbers to run them as individual age categories.

Who can take part

This event is open to South African citizens and permanent residents. The organizers may verify/confirm your participation with your Provincial/ Regional Commission. Riders will not be considered registered until all administrative requirements have been fulfilled. This event is open to South African citizens and permanent residents. In order to be eligible to enter, the event organisers will verify and confirm your participation with your Provincial/Regional Track Commission.

Junior, Elite & Masters must be in possession of a valid Cycling SA Racing License. All riders must present this license or membership at registration and upon demand during the event. No one-day event licenses will be sold.

Riders are not considered registered until all administrative requirements have been fulfilled:

  • Online entry has been completed (no paper-based entries will be accepted)
  • Entry fee has been paid in full, in advance
  • Cycling SA Track Racing License or Membership has been verified.

Costs

Entry fees for this year’s championship is based on a per-event bases, which departs from the fixed fees charged in earlier years. The reason for this is two-fold;

  • Participants enter as many events as possible during registration, but then either cancel or do not show up for the events on the day. This affects the organiser’s ability to effectively plan the race program, as each event need to take into account the planned number of participants. As a result last-minute changes to the program causes additional work for administrators and officials and cause confusion and negatively affects the athletes in their preparation for their events.
  • Access to funding for national events like this have been in a steady decline over the years. This is evident in the willingness of provinces to host these events. Western Cape Cycling is committed to hosting a proportional share of these national events to further the sport, but it requires funding to do so. With a projected budget of over R300,000 in expenses to host this event we need to rely on the cycling community to contribute towards these costs.

Fee structure

The fee structure is based on the number of events each person will participate in in accordance with the fee structure listed below.
