UPDATE ON RACE DETAILS – 24/8/2022

To enhance our riders safety, we have redirected the route through Rawsonville to cut out the Main Road.  We will instead go around the perimeter of the town.  Route maps below have been updated accordingly.

This means an increase of approximately 5km per distance, other than the 38km race.

Start Times

The 107km race will start at 7h30 in batches as required.  This will include a separate start for the women doing this race

The 135km race will start at approximately 8h00 in batches as required

The 66km race will start at approximately 8h30 in batches as required

The 32km race will start at approximately 9h00 in batches as required

Please refer to the table below for the distances and approximate average speed for each category.

Select a category based on your expected average speed over the given distance. Cut-off times will apply on the route based on the lowest speed indicated above.

Under 19 Men are eligible for all race distances.

The ladies will have a separate race in the 107km event and we encourage all ladies wanting to do a longer race to enter this event.

Under 17 Boys and Under 19 Girls cannot participate in the 135km race.

Under 15 Boys and Under 17 Girls can race in the 38km and 66km races.

No other youth age groups are eligible for participation

Registration and Parking will be at Opstal Cellars, Slanghoek Road – Please look out for the parking signs.

Race Numbers and Tags

All participants will be issued with race specific numbers and frame boards which include an embedded timing tags. All frame boards / tags are to be returned at the end of the race.

Entries will open on Friday 22 July and close at 19h00 on Monday 5 September 2022. No entries will be possible after this time.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 epidemic, the organisers of the event reserve the right to cancel the race should circumstances dictate.  If we cancel the race 7 or more days before the time (on or before 4 September 2022) we will refund those who have entered 60% of their race fee.  Anytime after that, we will refund 30% of your entry fee.  Alternatively, arrangements can be made with the registration team to carry the race fee over to the rescheduled event, should we have one.  Should you request a refund, when the rescheduled event is announced, you will be required to pay the full amount again.

Entrants who cancel their entries 7 or more days before the time (on or before 4 September 2022) will be refunded 30% of their entry fee.  Cancellations in the 7 days prior to the event, or on the day itself, will not be refunded.

 

Both the 130km and the 102km races have been vetted and approved as a 94.7 seeding event.

Team Time Trials 2022 @ Slent Rd

With the Old Mutual Wealth Double Century just around the corner, it’s time to put your team time trial skills to the test.

Grab your teammates and enter the WP Team Time Trial

 

Teams of 6 riders each will race around a 30-kilometre circuit twice! How fast can you and your mates ride over fast flat 60kilometres? Which TEAM will have the bragging rights to being the fastest club in the Cape?

Teams of 6 riders will tackle the circuits with the time for the team being recorded when the 4th rider crosses the finish line.

This event does not form part of the WP League.

Categories and seeding

Due to the nature of this event, and the possibility of teammates being allocated into different categories, we will not use the normal categorisation for this event.

Routes and distances

Team members for the Team Time Trial may consist of all age categories from u/17 and older.  All teams compete over 60km.

A separate Ladies competition will be dependent on the number of Ladies Teams entered; however we also allow mixed teams in this race.

Timing

The event will make use of timing chips embedded into the bike frame boards.  These are to be collected at registration on Sunday morning and returned to the event personnel after the event.

Costs

The cost for this race is R200 per person.

Entries will open on Monday 10 October 2022 and close Thursday night 10 November at 18h00.

Each participant must enter individually first and then the team leader should email their team composition to road@wpcycling.com.

PaardenEiland Criterium

Our first race in the Criterium Championship series place on Sunday 5 February at 15h00 in the afternoon.  Building on the success of last years crit series, we know it’s going to be fast, furious and a whole load of fun!  Bring friends and family along to support you!  This event is going to be hosted at a new venue so please familiarise yourself with the directions to get there.

Course and Distances

The course is a circular route around the industrial area of PaardenEiland.  Please note that this is a new course however, it’s quite close to the old one and easily accessible.  The start area is in Transvaal Road and goes circular, anti-clockwise as shown below.

Registration will be on the parkland near the start.  Please ensure that you are at the venue well in advance of your race as you will not be able to cross the race circuit while a race is underway.

Please note that this race is on public roads with no road closures.  We will do everything we can to mitigate the risk to participants.

WPMTBC only take possession of the track being utilized on the commencement of the official practice and at that stage will offer the necessary marshaling and medical services.

The SA XCM Championships will take place on 4 and 5 March 2023 at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate, Western Cape.  There will also be an Enduro event and a Schools and Juniors short track race over the same weekend.

Cycling South Africa Membership and Licence Requirements:   To register and race the SA XCM Championship, South African riders must hold a valid Cycling South Africa Membership or Cycling South Africa Full Racing Licence at the time of entry.

Juniors and Elites need to have Cycling South Africa Full Racing Licences and  all other categories may have Cycling South Africa Memberships.   For more information about Cycling South Africa, Click here

Please ensure that you have paid your Cycling South Africa fee.  Kindly bring your printed Membership/Licence Card to registration.

Foreign nationals and others with valid reasons for not having Cycling South Africa Membership/ Licences may purchase a day licence at registration or via the entry process in order to race.

Race categories are based on your 2023 Birthday Age and not on your current age.  For example, if you are now 10, but turning 11 on 20 December 2023, you are a Sprog Girl for all 2023 races.

Please check and correct your CyclingSA profile if necessary.

Marking of the Track:  Marking of the track and the construction of the race village will commence on Thursday prior to the event.
