The Western Province Mountain Biking Commission (WPMTBC) was established with the support of Cycling South Africa and aims to serve the mountain biking community in the Western Cape. The Western Province MTB Commission covers all Olympic disciplines including XCO (Cross Country), XCM (Cross Country Marathon), Downhill and Enduro Racing. Mountain biking is the fastest growing sport in South Africa and has the highest levels of participation both competitively and recreationally, with XCO being the most common discipline.
This sport requires endurance, core strength, balance and self-reliance. Advance riders pursue steep descents and endure complex routes. Over recent years, mountain biking has enticed support from corporates in the Western Cape wishing to get involved, companies have latched onto this phenomenal sport and begun sponsoring these high profile events.
