A new and exciting race will be coming your way in June. 222km circular route from Velddrif 222 Velddrif. This circular route takes you inland from Velddrif to Piketberg before swinging north-west to Elandsbaai then south along the coast back to Velddrif. It’s a challenge! 222km with some serious climbs, giving you 1300m of ascent. You’d better start training soon!
The race will work on a handicap system with the slower riders starting first. Start times will be issued to participants once the entries are closed.
AND to spice things up, we are incorporating a club competition to the race. The combined times of the first 10 of your club members across the line will give you the reputation as the fastest toughest club in the Cape! So get talking to your club mates and get entering. Ensure you have indicated your club during the registration process!
Line honours will go to the first person across the finish line and of course race honours to the rider with the fastest elapsed time overall! So plenty to race for.
Participants
The participants for the event, as well as their start batch, is available in the PDF download below;
Route and Elevation
The route is a circular one, starting and ending in Velddrif.
Categories and Seeding
WPCA officials will use previous race data to seed the start groups. Participants will be notified of their start group and time by email a few days before the race takes place.
Registration
Registration will take place on Saturday 25 June at the Riviera Hotel in Velddrif from 4pm until 7pm and again the following morning from 6am until 8:30am. Participants from the WP League races are to use their existing race numbers for this event but are still required to sign on at registration. People who have not been in any of our previous races will be issued race numbers at registration.
Race Information:
The race will start in Voortrekker Road in Velddrif near the bird watching station, approximately 500 metres from the Riviera Hotel, heading towards Piketberg. The first 2km will be a neutral zone, taking you out of the town. Racing will start at this point.
There will be 3 feed zones on the route. The first one will be as you leave Piketberg on the left hand side of the road outside Q-Koel – a distance of 65km from the start.
The second feed zone will be at Redelinghuys, 126km into the race. Cyclists will need to turn into Redelinghuys from the race route to access this feed zone. We would encourage family and supporters to join in the fun at this point. City Cycling Club are hosting the feedzone and will have snack packs available for the riders.
The final feed zone will be at SaamStaan, on the way back to Velddrif. This zone is 188km into the race, 35km from the finish, and probably a necessary stop for a lot of people.
The finish line will be just outside Velddrif on the Dwarskersbos road.
